Home Bargains For Langley Mill

Rumours:

1. I've heard that Peacocks at Heanor is closing.
2. A Poundland (or similar is taking its place).

And after hearing several rumours about Home Bargains moving into Langley Mill's old Netto store, I finally had it confirmed last night (just in case you don't read my 'recent comments' section), by Sarah at The Best Of Heanor And Ripley, and again today by my neighbour who has seen the notices at Netto.

Even though this can only be good news for Langley mill, I do hope this has no negative impact on the Home Bargains store at Heanor.

If you go on the store finder section on Home Bargains Website it will tell you a new store is opening in The Acorn Centre, Langley Mill July 2012.

Of course, ahem, not actually being in Langley Mill myself at this specific moment - and having my mind chock full of what exciting shiny new Android jobby I'm having next - does have huge repercussions on my nosiness, or I'd have written this (as a rumour) before now ...

What's Happening At The End Of Cromford Road?

Hmm, because there seems to be a large amount of inactivity - as in empty or closed - at the bottom end of Cromford Road, we're now wondering if a recent rumour that I mentioned at the beginning of my moany 'lack of flowers' blog - businesses at the end of Cromford Road being offered large wads of cash - is in fact true.

If there is a hint of truth in the rumours then we're puzzled about who wants to buy land and businesses there, and what they want them for [Godwins next attempt at McDonalds in case their current plans are thwarted, perhaps].

I can see many days ahead - when sufficiently bored enough, I'm not that nosy ... no, really - of t'Interweb cruising to see what I can find out ... failing that we'll interrogate some likely candidates.

There's still no sign at AVBC that the plans are being passed for McDonalds on CJ Cars plot,  I'm NOT ever so convinced these plans will be passed as - in my humble opinion - that stretch of road isn't safe as it is now, even without a McDonalds there, because the roundabout is too small and drivers from both Asda and Eastwood actually treat Station Road with an 'I've got right of way' mentality and are totally oblivious to Cromford Road.

And anyway, I have already suggested [ok, rumoured] that Netto would be a much better place for McDonalds - as Asda aren't likely to keep Langley Mill's Netto, which is almost closed - but no-one takes any notice of me.

You'll have to excuse the shortness of this post, but my friends are waiting for me to go out and play [bowls] ... and I still refuse to wear the uniform ...

I Love Tesco

I was woken by my new favourite swearword [Asda] at 5.38 this morning by a delivery lorry - and this was with the window shut, I couldn't breathe, I'm all bunged up from lack of air - who cares? It just got worse and noisier as the day went on with the Asda muck-mountain being moved from behind us and over to the side of the railway.

Questions:

1. Who the hell decided that it would be a good idea to make the lorries sound like a cross between a constipated duck and an angry crow when they're reversing ... again and again and again? 
2. Is the service yard big enough if they have to take 15 attempts to reverse in?
3. Wouldn't it have been better to have the service yard the other side of Asda?
4. I've read that Asda has got to offload 47 Netto stores [office of fair trading decision], Morrisons want some of them, but what about Langley Mill's Netto????
5. Why is Asda's money being spent on Aldercar recreation park and not Queen Street recreation ground? [or is that to happen later?]
6. Why am I in such a bad mood? ... Crushed Silver Birches, dead wildlife.
7. How come the rules for Heanor Haulage's workshop [had it been built] stated that they couldn't start work before 8.00am, yet Asda can wake me at 5.38am - they're lorries ... making noise ... chugging fumes.

We went to Argos for the blackout blind I've had to buy to block out Asda's security and loading dock lights [you owe me £12.99 Asda]. Seeing as we were already at Heanor we went to TESCO - bags of space ... loads of offers ... £10 off voucher [coupon, whatever] ... fast and friendly service ... a breeze to get around - well, it was bound to be really. Langley Mill was still full of people queuing to get into Asda's car park and bogging up the roundabout when we left ...

Asda Buying Netto

Well I suppose as Asda is buying Netto in the UK, this means we may have rather a chunky sized Asda in Langley Mill after all.

From what I've read, Netto will be coming under the Asda brand by the middle of 2011 [assuming they get approval from the Office of Fair Trading], and as Asda will be virtually neighbours with Netto in Langley Mill, we're making bets amongst ourselves that there will be different departments in each.

Now, ahem, if Asda were to play at all fair, they'd sell Langley Mill's Netto to Tesco - yeah right! That has to be one of my funniest ideas this week. Although it is quite possible that Asda will sell our Netto.

... Or, looking at the plans, if I were Asda:

I'd shove [a new construction term for you there RG group] the new store over to the left a bit as far as Wesley Street instead of having parking spaces there. Then have deliveries on the Bridge Street side of the store. They could then have a walk through - yes, I realise it may slope a bit - to the back of Netto/Asda for non-food departments. [shame Asda's plans are all done and dusted]. Doing that would really, really annoy Tesco at Heanor.

I think Asda should let me work for them at finding ways to annoy Tesco - I do it so well. What am I saying? I'm already doing it for free!

Time for the latest rumours - there aren't many so I may have to start making them up:

1. Asda have bought Nether Green service station [Esso].
2. Tesco in Heanor has bought Cross Keys and Memory Lane pubs for their new petrol station.
3. Heanor Haulage still own the land straight in front of us and behind us.

Oops, how did that last one get in amongst the rumours, tut tut - it's a fact isn't it? [but I don't like them feeling left out].

Of course, being me, I've looked at all the recent plans and even if these rumours were true, they haven't applied for any planning permissions - yet ...
