Permanent Car Wash On Tavern Car Park

A permanent car wash and valeting service has been applied for  - AVA/2013/0846 - on the Railway Tavern car park, Langley Mill ... because - ahem - the current permit is running out now. Funny that, we all thought it ran out June 2011.

Apparently they say that everything is already on site to make it permanent, but I do hope they have to make it look less like a pile of junk aka a scrap yard than it presently does or what's the point? ...

Update 1st November: This pile of garbage was granted PERMANENT planning permission yesterday. I can only assume they think it's what Langley Mill amounts to. I bet there isn't a similar heap of junk on Belper's main road.

  1. How are they allowed to let the waste water run over the pavement, making it dangerous in Winter for Pedestrians and letting it run into the drains. Have tests been done to make sure the chemicals used are SAFE ?

  2. I wonder if this means that they are up to date on the payments of their Business Rates for the whole of the time they have occupied that site ?

  3. The original application that ran out had strict time restraints. For example on Sundays it had to close by 1pm. It is always open most of the day on Sunday. They also only had approval for 1 portacabin at he rear of the premises. They now have more than this and one is positioned right on the path line. The signs & banners were also put up without consent. They have ignored the regulations for too long. Log onto the AV website and register an objection before its too late. The applicant comes from Normanton in Derby so they are not even local. They contribute nothing to our community, spend no money here and when they go home at night we are left with their dirt and the eyesore. This makes Langley Mill look like something from a third world country. They don't care what it looks like because they don't live round here. Don't rely on the Council to make the right decision please fight for your community and register your objection.

    1. I have just left my protest objection on the AVBC Planning website regarding this eyesore, I hope many others will do the same !

  4. The Planning Dept have special powers under section 178 of the Town & Country Planning Act 1990 to shut down premises that are in breach of an enforcement order. The enforcement order on this site has been in force for over a year and AVBC have done exactly nothing about it. If they had done their job it would have already been gone. They get a bloody good wage and a pension paid from out of our council tax. If they got paid based on performance they might do a bit more than just polish chairs with their backsides. The Parish councilors are not much better. They are formally invited to comment on all planning applications in their area. Take a look at the AVBC planning site and you will see that they don't bother to reply. These self serving non elected parish councilors need a kick up the backside. They should be working to improve the community instead of keeping a low profile.

  5. Hello anonymous, you'll have to bear with me. Only just got back from Skegness this afternoon and I need to go over and take fresh photos before I 'make a comment' at AVBC. I wouldn't like to think I was maligning an innocent business man if the car wash has been miraculously tidied up since I last saw it.

There's no way they can possibly think that because they state in their application that "everything is already there" that they can carry on doing business in a ramshackle pile of junk like it was last time I looked. I mean, according to Asda it's in the centre of Langley Mill and even if it's not it's still on the main street :(

  6. Just driven past the place. They are now constructing another timber framed eyesore right at the front. What is it about this business that protects it from the laws the rest of us have to abide by.

    1. Well, we'll just say they're NOT from Langley Mill shall we. I've checked on plans at AVBC site (consultation tab) and my address hasn't appeared yet even though I left my comments on Thursday 3rd Oct. Bet they're hoping to ignore me.

    2. Got my Planning Contribution Acknowledgement email Monday and my address went on the 'consultation' tab yesterday. They must be very busy as the email said they received my 'message with comments' on the 7th and I did it on 3rd :/

    3. It would be nice if the manager of McDonalds sent in an objection, not good for the image of Langley Mill having that eyesore as a neighbour !

  7. I see the Parish Council have actually responded to the application this time but there's no way of telling what they have said as they have not published any minutes since 25th July. I hope they have done right by the folk they represent this time.

    1. So they have. I wonder if people have complained to them about it so they've had to respond.

I have to wonder why businesses that are no longer there have been 'consulted' - Delta bookmakers???, 215 Station Road, and that was Mark Jarvis' bookmakers for donkey's years. Has anyone told ASDA??? or McDonald's or the legitimate car wash - IMO (Acorn Centre). These are businesses who should have an opinion on that pile of junk.

    2. I walked past the site on Saturday and Sunday lunchtimes and saw the chain was across the entrance preventing vehicles onto the site and nobody around !

    5. Just spotted that the application was approved today (31st October) I think the planning dept is really taking the p--s approving this on haloween. Thanks for the nightmare AVBC. I would have liked to see the response from the parish council but they still have not published the minutes from the last meetings. Useless bunch. I thought the planning depts job was to ensure anything that was built blended in with the surroundings. If they think this fits in with Langley Mill they must have a very low opinion of where we live. I had hoped things were improving but AVBC obvoiusly thinks Lanley Mill deserves this pile of crap. All we can hope for now is that people see sense and stop using it.

    6. Oh, I looked earlier today and it said that a decision was expected on 4th Nov. I hope there's some rules about tidying it up, if not then Langley Mill will be taking a backwards step :(

Be nice, I'm very sensitive.
