Nether Green Service Station

I see the plans have gone in for the recently demolished Esso garage.

Nether Green Service Station Derby Road Langley Mill Derbyshire NG16 4AA - Demolition of existing Petrol Filling Station, Shop, forecourt, canopy and underground tanks and car wash and erection of new Petrol filling Station, forecourt, two canopies, convenience store with ATM and replacement underground tanks. 24 hours.

From what I've seen of the plans the entrance and exit have been switched, I assume this is because the traffic lights opposite the old exit gave the wrong impression that 'green' is for go. I could be completely wrong though ...

  1. 'Nether Green' with its very own Postal Zone sorting office NG16. Fantastic! And there's me having never heard of them.
It's just my luck to be within 25 miles of my sorting office in (whisper) Slough. Mine is SL6. You see Slough post codes put house prices down :(
    motor insurance up :(
and Heaven knows how I'm affected by the NHS post code lottery?
Take care - Hugs B xx (miles from Slough)

  2. Hi Bernard, we're lucky with the sorting office being so close. In reality we should have a DE75 postcode with us living in Derbyshire, but instead we've got Nottinghamshire's NG16. The DE75 code would have us travelling miles to collect my many parcels rather than calling on our way to Eastwood.

  4. I notice that plans have gone in to demolish the Durham Ox on Cromford Road. Presumably to build houses.

    2. Talking of pubs, the former Jockey public house on Station Road has had its Planning Application submitted, not for demolition but a small extension for a supermarket on the Ground Floor to nearly double the retail floor space of the old Supermarket and 2 separate Apartments on the 1st floor.

  6. Planning Application submitted-

    AVA/2014/0737

Former Somerfields Store, Market Street Heanor
New Shop Frontage for W. Boyes & Co.

Looks like they are hoping to move into the vacant store, already have Shops in Ripley and Eastwood. Nice to see the old Fine Fare shop spring back into life.

A major Retail unit in Heanor has been out of action for too long !

    1. The former Nether Green Service Station is now in the process of being built. The two fuel storage tanks have been installed and the metal structure to hold the canopy are being erected !

    2. They're a bit quicker at Skegness. In March, Asda announced that with planning permission they were taking over the Roman Bank Total petrol station and opening their own petrol station and small shop ... it opens tomorrow.

  7. I think what has taken the time is digging out the old fuel tanks, then filling it in, then digging a deeper hole for the new pair !

  8. Is it Esso that is building the new petrol station at Langley Mill, or if not, who is it? I cannot find any details from planning.
Whoever it is, they must be brave to go up in competition against Asda, unless it is Asda themselves, who seem to be branching out with non store related petrol stations.
