It seems that this bad weather has sent all the workmen scurrying indoors, as it has gone very quiet around the Asda island over the past week or so.
So will the three weeks allowed be enough to get all the work completed as the McDonalds opening day draws near?
It's rumoured that McDonalds is opening the first week in February, they've been working very late most nights the past week so it shows that the deadline is fast approaching!
.....
Just been looking on the AVBC Planning website about the submission for The Mill Pub.
It's now only 6 Flats and the number of parking spaces are for 13 vehicles max.
I found these 2 headings 2.8 and 3.12 amusing:
2.8 Since it has been vacated the building has been subjected to vandalism and also suffered fire damage. The appearance of the building in its current state is an eyesore particularly in the light of the new development that has taken place on the opposite sides of the roundabout.
Don't you think WE have noticed that too!
And Landscaping 3.12 The site is currently all hard surfaced. The majority of the site would remain hard standing including the rear car park. It is intended however to include a small area of planting on the north west corner of the site adjoining the entrance to enhance the appearance of the site.
Does this mean we will see the demise of our beloved 'tyre trailer'?
Looking at the plans drawn up by Peart Bradley Architects, they look good, but I'm a bit unsure why the project is titled 'The Station Pub, Langley Mill'? .... (ooooh, yes so it is)
Back to me:
I noticed on the application that it is noted that 'the premises may reopen as a drinking establishment without requiring planning permission as this use is longstanding' ... but the opening hours for whatever retail units are proposed is 8.00am-9.00pm Mon-Sat and 10.00am-4.00pm Sun ...

If The Mill pub does rise from the ashes (literally) and the former Potters Snooker Club reopens as retail units, because work does seem to have restarted on them, then how soon I wonder, before we see a Planning Application for the redevelopment of the old 'Smiths Flour Mill' just across the road. Because a little bit of dismantling seems to have started already ?

Funnily enough, there have been several searches the last couple of days looking for Smiths flour mill being demolished. I presume they're from people in the area who are wondering what is happening.
DeleteI'll keep an eye out for planning applications ... just for a change :)
Just been reading a letter that has been given to most of the residents of Cromford Road who will be affected by the removal of Smiths Flour Mill.
DeleteIt came from Ward Demolition, who are responsible for its removal, stating the times that they will be working each day and apologize for the dust and noise that they will cause over next 12 weeks as they work on the sites gradual demise !

DeletePlanning Application AVA/2013/0380
Applicant Mr. Nicholas Henrys (Hucknall)
Change of use from retail units to licensed premises. Refurbishment of interior ground floor area into bar.
It states that the new bar, which will be on the corner of Dean Street and Cromford Road, will show 'live sport' and will put on 'live entertainment' aimed at all generations and all tastes !

Just had a peep at the McDonalds application for 'signage' at the new eatery and what an array the motorists will have to face !
ReplyDeleteAs we thought the entrance will be from Station Road and NOT via a bridge from the Access 26 site, so we all look foreward to the fun and games that all the extra traffic will eventually cause.
I do hope that you have your camera at the ready ?

I don't know where the rumour about the McDonalds entrance being from Access 26 came from. And I must say, I've heard it from several people.
DeleteI checked the plans and there was no mention of it, perhaps it's an idea for the future if the traffic becomes unmanageable.
...or a damn nuisance, along with the litter !

The whole of the mill is coming down. Apparentley for 90 houses
ReplyDeleteThey'd better be on stilts then, as they would be built on a 'flood plain' zone ?

Interesting, I'll make sure to keep an eye out for whatever application turns up at AVBC. As yet there's nothing.
DeleteThe last plans for Smiths Flour Mill were 22nd July 2011 for a portakabin which has to be removed by December 2014, this is likely to be achieved ... unlike that pile of junk aka the car wash on the Railway Tavern car park.
That should have been removed by June 2011. All that's happened to it so far is that it's acquired extra tat.
Notification of the demolition of Smiths Flour Mill is now on AVBC Planning website, I'm keeping my eye on it for future redevelopment of the site !

Wellingborough-based Whitworth Bros. through Dogsthorpe Acquisitions payed £450,000 for the business assets of Smiths Flour Mills 3 sites in Worksop, Holbeach and Langley Mill and as far as I can see still own the site here in Langley Mill !

Now then, are we ALL going to give our support to the proposed new cinema complex on the Giltbrook Retail Park ?
ReplyDeleteIt sounds a great idea if it goes ahead, I know it's in another Borough, but it's ONLY down the A610 5 minutes drive away or a hop onto the Rainbow 1 or the Amberline buses.
Must go as I want to go onto the on-line survey and throw in my 3 peneth worth, if you know what I mean ?

Even if this weather is hardly 'Spring like' it's good to see that a Spring clean of the Mill Pub has FINALLY seen the removal of the tyre filled trailer which has blighted this Parish for far too long, I wonder why the sudden pangs of consideration has surfaced ?
