Cromford Road Car Park - Free Short Stay

Information from fellow grumpy ALI

The Cromford Road car park is again under the control of AVBC, after making the choice to return it to a FREE short stay car park. A nominal rent is to be paid to the new landlord.

Please be aware that it is free for ONLY a 3 hour maximum stay, so Council enforcement officers may be keeping a lookout when it reopens for those wanting to stay for much longer periods, thinking they are able to park all day as they did before

...

Thanks ALI. There were 3 ... I repeat THREE police persons stood outside the car park yesterday morning. If we'd had time, I'd have asked them to get the car shifted that was stupidly parked on the corner of Cromford Road/Bridge Street. Neither grumpy nor myself could see around it to check for traffic whizzing down Cromford Road. Grumpy was already having enough problems judging how fast the speeding morons were coming from Station Road ...

  1. Why does Langley Mill have restictions and pay and display machines, on small car parks like Milnhay Road and Cromford Road, when Codnor has a much bigger free council car park? Doesn't seem fair to me. Do most Councillors live in Codnor?

    1. I didn't realise that Codnor still free council parking. Well spotted. It's probably fair to say that I don't think many AVBC councillors live in Langley Mill. Having said that, there probably aren't many living in Codnor or they wouldn't be wanting to build so many houses there.

    2. Perhaps AVBC own the land which provides its FREE car park on Codnor Market Place, the Cromford Road car park has ALWAYS been privately owned, and still is !

Don't forget that it's OUR Parish Precept which helps fund these Car Parks !

  2. Does AVBC own Milnhay Road? I am aware that the Cromford Road car park has always been privately owned.

    1. Hi anonymous,
Sorry I don't know the answer to this one, hopefully ALI does and will leave a comment.

    2. Not too sure if the site IS owned by AVBC but its real use was for those who mainly used the Railway Station, similarly with the car park on North Street as well.

    3. As soon as I see new signage erected on the Cromford Road car park displaying the times you are allowed to legally park your car I will let you all know !

    4. Still no signs put up yet, I suppose the New Year will see some work done on the car park !

    5. A Planning Application has been submitted today to AVBC for 2 signs to be erected on the Cromford Road car park, hopefully when installed it will ease the parking problems along this road, then drivers will know the times that they are allowed to park free of charge.

    6. I've only just noticed that one of the 'signs' to be erected on the Car Park will be a replacement Notice Board, I hope it's more vandal-proof than the last one ?

    7. That Parish Council Notice Board has finally been installed on the Cromford Road car park, sadly no 'Sign' displaying the FREE parking available on it though !

  3. According to Basilia (deli, Cromford Road), our illustrious LOCAL council has reinstated the free (3 hours) parking. We're to expect bins that they've ordered too. Not sure if these are litter bins or the recycling bins that were there before - time will tell.

    1. It might be the Litter Bin that was removed from outside the fronts of Basilia and Langley Mill Records(my favourite shop) !

I was told it was removed by Council staff who said it was standing at a 'dangerous angle'. It was like this because the workmen who had been working on the frontage of the old Model Shop had moved it but failed to remove ALL the brick rubble that they had produced and stood it back on the said rubble.

Also when it was replaced they forgot that the door should open at the side and NOT the front, as it was very dangerous for passing pedestrians when the wind blew it open, blocking the pavement if people were waiting at the Bus Stop.

Being the kind sole that I am I turned it around to the original postion to which it had been installed by AVBC. We may also be seeing the return of the bin at the junction of Gladstone St. and Cromford Rd. ?

    2. The Litter Bin has now been replaced a couple of days ago, we now have a brand new one which I hope people from nearby takeaways will use ?

Sadly the one at the bottom of Gladstone St. and on Cromford Road has not !

    3. Yes I spotted 3 A4 laminated signs fixed to the wire fencing noting that the maximum stay was 3 hours !

    4. It's a pity that Langley Mill is now missing 8 Litter Bins along the stretch of Station Road and Cromford Road, this was after watching the BBC Panorama programme on 28th Oct. regarding the amount of litter dropped in the Streets, as compared to the 1960's !
